Redbrand Hideout - Part 2


The party enters a large cavern and befriends a Nothic “Steve” by feeding him barrels of salted meat. He shows “Alfred” a treasure chest containing Talon + healing potions.
“Steve” points the party to the Northern most passage on the west of the cavern after being asked the way to Glassstaff.
At the end of the passage the party takes the southern door after hearing a group of drunks playing a game. Zrroth decides to charge in recklessly (+ insp) and a split party just about takes down the redbrands after some health potion juggling.
The party heads further south and at the next room finds the bugbears bullying a goblin. The bugbears tell the players to go away, being in the red cloaks the bug bears assume they are redbrands. Alfred decides to attack (+insp), after a warning of “are you sure?”. A roll some 2 1’s on damage and some poor attack rolling results in the bugbears dieing rather easily.
The goblin, named Droop, tells the party the way to glass staff but doesn’t know the way to the castle. He hands some players a few pretty rocks and some string, and rummages under a bed and comes out with a health potion.
The party heads north into a wizards workshop, a rat watches them enter and scurries away, the party deduce they were trying to make invisibility potions but so far unsuccessful. Tithar decides to urinate in the equipment and causes an explosion, which he dodges away from, but destroys all the equipment.
The party enters the next room, after hearing a feint click in the room beyond, to see a secret door open and the room empty. Cora follows and sees “Steve” trying to stop Glassstaff from escaping. She goes back to warn the party and Owain and Alfred give chase.
In the room the party find some scrolls and health potions, and a letter from the Black Spider ordering Iarno (Glassstaff’s real name) to ambush and capture the dwarf and any friends.
They eventually decide to try to give chase but where not successful in catching up in time.
Meanwhile, Owian and Alfred are locked in a battle to try to stop him from escaping. Glasstaff first of all, holds “Steve” and then charms “Alfred”. He fails a hold person on Owain and Owain catches up to him eventually and tackles him to the ground. Alfred, charmed, pulls Owain off Glassstaff, who sensing a chance to escape, teleports 30ft to the exit and manages to dodge a volley of projectiles from the rest of the party who just about catch up in time.

The session ends with Glassstaf escaping the hideout and all the other Redbrands dead.

Redbrand Hideout - Part 1


After interrogating the surviving redbrand. He tells them Glass staff is the leader, and the black spider is giving order to the redbrands in the area to frighten off adventures and intimidate locals.
He doesn’t know the way to Cragmaw castle and is new to the area after being brought in as a mercenary. The party let him go and he escapes the town.

The party enter the hideout and investigates the first room, spending some time looking at the cistern but not seeing anything. They investigate the room to the west and Owain tries to deceive a group of redbrands as the party is wearing red cloaks. They are having none of the deception and a fight breaks out. The party deals with the redbrands, and a few head off to investigate the north door. They proceed down the corridor and a few party members fall down a pit trap, they come to so double doors at the end of the corridor. On opening the door, the room large with some skeletons standing next to three sarcophagi, the party kills the skeletons and exit through the north door. The party comes to a locked door at the end of the corridor and on unlocking and entering they come to what appears to be an armoury. After looting the room they go back the the skeleton room and open the door leading west.

Cora notices two swords overhanging the door way, as two humans are trying to ambush anyone trying to enter the room. Cora attacks as does the rest of the party and the redbrands are killed.

They find some captives in this room. They are Thel Dendras wife and children. They free them and let them go, Mirna lets them know of an heirloom buried in thundertree in an herb/alchemy shop.

The party goes back to the north and starts searching for secret doors, they find one in the north west corner and open this.

Session ends.

Entering Phandalin

The party enters Phandalin with Sildar Hallwinter and he suggests finding lodgings at a local inn.

The party go to the inn and after some eating, drinking and bardic music the party learns the following;

  • The Redbrands are causing problems in the town.
  • Thel Dendrar, a local wood carver, was murdered by the Redbrands and now his family is missing.
  • There is a former adventurer in town, Daran Eldermath
  • The Redbrands are hassling every business apart from the miners exchange.
  • Qelline Alderleaf maybe able to help with the search for the castle.

Cuthbert, Cora and Lindmir go off to see Quelline;

  • She tells them that the druid Reidoth would know the location of the castle, he was last seen in Thundertree. She gives them directions.
  • Cora hands Quelline some money.
  • She offers the party somewhere to stay.

The party drops the cart back to Barthens Provisions.

  • He lets them know of the Redbrand problem
  • He tells the party he hasnt see the other Rockseeker brothers for a tenday orso, but expects to see them soon.
  • He gives the party 10GP.

The party goes back to the inn and rests for the night.

In the morning the party visits the town hall. Silder tells them of his investigations into Iarno “Glasstaff” Albrek and the town major tells the party of problems with orcs raiding around Wyvern Tor.

The party visits the Miners Exchange and meets Halia Thornton. She also mentions the Redbrand problem and offers 100gp to clear out the Redbrands and bring her any correspondence.

The party learns that the Redbrands hang out at the Sleeping Giant Tavern. They decide to visit, but Tithar is told to go away and he is not welcome when trying to enter alone.

The entire party shows up this time, and the party enters after ignoring insults from the Redbrands.

A fight breaks out and they tie up the one surviving Redbrand.

Goblin Arrows

Gundren Rockseer has hired you to take a wagonload of supplies to Barthen’s Provisions in the rough and tumble frontier town of Phandalin. You will receive 10GP from Barthen when you arrive with the wagon. You all have your own reasons for wanting to visit Phandalin as well, in addition to the money. Gundren left ahead of you on horse with his partner Sildar Hallwinter in order to get to Phandalin quickly to “take care of some business”.

About half a day after turning east onto the Triboar Trail off of the High Road, you notice two dead horses ahead with arrows stuck in their sides. They are the horses of Gundren and Sildar. They have been dead about a day. You notice the saddlebags were looted and there was an empty map case laying on the ground.

4 Goblins fail to ambush the party and they get soon are wiped out.

The party discovers a trail going into the woods and on following it and avoiding/falling into a few traps the party found the goblin cave.

Inside the cave you found Sildar being held hostage by a group of 8 goblins, a fight broke out and the chief Goblin pushed Sildar off a ledge. You heal up Sildar and after interrogating him and another goblin you discover that Gundren was taken to Cragmaw Castle. Neither knew the way to the castle.
The goblin knew that the goblins where ordered by Klaarg (Big Hairy, pointy ears) on the request of “The black spider” to take the dwarf hostage.

The session ends with the party returning to the cart and heading onto Phandalin.

Sildar tells you he was escorting Gundren but heading to Phandalin at the Lord’s Alliance request to find out what happened to Iarno, whom being sent ahead earlier has not reported in and gone missing.
